Doves Confirm Headlining Glastonbury AppearanceMarch 20, 2009
Doves drummer Andy Williams has said the band will headline the John Peel stage at this year's Glastonbury festival.
Williams told BBC 6Music that the group were “really pleased” to be appearing at the event, although he didn't confirm on which day they would be playing. “I think there might have been possibly the chance of doing one of the other stages in the afternoon but we really love that stage,” he said. “The first time we ever played Glastonbury we played that stage, I think it was called the New Bands Tent. It’s just such a great tent to generate a vibe.” Williams' brother, Jez, revealed organisers had offered the band the chance to play the Other Stage, but they decided to play in a tent. “That’s how we started at Glastonbury. It’s a bit more claustrophobic, a bit more sweaty, there’s a bit more atmosphere,” he added. As previously reported, Young will headline Glastonbury alongsid Bruce Springsteen and Blur. Other performers this year include Franz Ferdinand, Lily Allen and Fleet Foxes. The Glastonbury festival in Somerset will take place from June 26th-28th. Tickets have sold out.
