U2's The Edge: 'Bono And George Bush Picture Was Worth It'March 5, 2009
U2's guitarist The Edge has said the group's singer, Bono, did the right thing in posing for a photograph with former US President George W Bush.
The guitarist recently revealed that he had warned Bono against agreeing to the photo because he thought it would send a “weird message” to fans. But, in an interview with XFM, The Edge said Bono's intentions meant the picture was “worth it”. “Again, he had thought it through and realised there was an opportunity there to get the Bush administration to step up and do something unprecedented for Africa,” The Edge said. “It turned out [Bono] was absolutely right. Whatever the price he had to pay for the custard pies thrown by U2 fans and people who didn’t like Bush, I think it was worth it in the end”. As previously reported, U2 are currently in New York promoting their new album 'No Line On The Horizon'. Yesterday, Bono revealed that the group, who are due to tour in “early summer”, had already agreed on a name for their next record.
