George Harrison's Son Outlines Independent Beatles' Download StoreMarch 18, 2009
![]() Despite ongoing talks with various retailers, including Apple's iTunes, The Beatles are still one of the few remaining bands whose music hasn't been converted into digital formats. In an interview with Blender, Harrison said the estates of his father and John Lennon, and surviving members Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, were “losing money every day” that their music wasn't available for download. "So what do you do? You have to have your own delivery system, or you have to do a good deal with [Apple CEO] Steve Jobs,” he said. "[Jobs] says that a download is worth 99 cents, and we disagree.” In November, Sir Paul McCartney told reporters in London that negotiations to digitalise the band's back-catalogue had “stalled”. "It's stalled – there are a couple of sticking points between EMI and The Beatles. No change there then,” he said. As previously reported, Beatles songs will feature on a forthcoming edition of Rock Band. (by Jason Gregory) See also: |
