The Spice Girls Reunion Beats Led Zeppelin O2 Arena GigSeptember 19, 2008
The Spice Girls have beaten Led Zeppelin to take the crown of the Best Music Reunion of the last 12 months at the Vodafone Live Music Awards.
Despite playing in front of some half empty venues, the pop group's return to the fray got more public votes than Zep's legendary show at the O2 Arena last year. Upon receiving the gong, Spice Girl Emma Bunton said she was “a bit shocked” to have beaten Led Zeppelin. Also up in the same category at the London Brixton Academy bash were The Verve and James. Primal Scream were the biggest winners of the night taking home an Outstanding Contribution To Live Music award and the Best Live Act gong ahead of The Verve, Muse and Kaiser Chiefs. They also closed the night with a three song set. Mark Ronson was named Best Live Male, while Kate Nash took the female version ahead of Duffy, Estelle and Amy Winehouse. The shortlists for the awards were selected by a panel of judges, before the eventual winner was voted for by the public. The night featured live performances from The Pussycat Dolls, Glasvegas, The Automatic, James Morrison, Will Young and the already mentioned Primal Scream.
