Shakira Song Chosen As Official 2010 World Cup AnthemApril 28, 2010
Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’ has been chosen as the official song for this summer’s football World Cup in South Africa.
The singer will perform the song alongside local artist Freshlyground at the closing ceremony in Johannesburg on July 11. “I am honored that Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) was chosen to be part of the excitement and the legacy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup,” said Shakira. “The FIFA World Cup is a miracle of global excitement, connecting every country, race, religion and condition around a single passion. “It represents an event that has the power to unite and integrate, and that’s what this song is about.” Shakira will also perform at the opening ceremony on June 10. A 3D video for ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’ will be released in mid-May. (by Jason Gregory) See also: Plan B, Shakira To Perform At MTV EMAs 2010 (11.10.2010)
