Jay-Z Sues Boston Red Sox Star David Ortiz For $5MmillionApril 16, 2010
Jay-Z has filed a lawsuit against Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz over the name of his nightclub.
The rapper and his business partner claim Ortiz’s Dominican establishment, Forty-Forty, is named after they own chain of 40/40 nightclubs. Jay-Z has clubs across the US and believes Ortiz is attempting to cash in on his name. "David Ortiz is fully aware of Plaintiff's Manhattan 40/40 club, since he had been a patron there on several occasions before he opened his infringing Forty/Forty club," the lawsuit states. The rapper and his business partner are seeking $5million in damages and for Ortiz to forfeit the name, reports the Associated Press.
