David Gilmour: 'Rick Wright Denied Dream To Play Glastonbury'Pink Floyd's David Gilmour has said Glastonbury organisers denied his late band mate Rick Wright one of his final wishes to perform at the festival.

Wright, who died last month following a battle with cancer, and the rest of the band had hoped to perform at the event last June.

But when their agents approached organisers three weeks before the festival they were told the line up had already been finalised.

Gilmour raised the issue when he collected his Outstanding Contribution to Music prize at the Q Awards in London yesterday.

After dedicating his award his former band mate, Gilmour said: "One of the last things he wanted to do, in this last year, was to do a big outdoor festival, such as Glastonbury.

"We weren't able to do that due to all sorts of strange reasons, which, again, is a sadness."

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis told the BBC that she was “upset” by Gilmour's comments, but added: “Hopefully he understands, or I think maybe he has been misinformed by someone that it was some sort of thing about them, but it wasn't at all, it was just purely because we couldn't fit them on anywhere."

She said it was not imaginable to downscale one of the event's headliners – Kings of Leon, Jay-Z and The Verve – in order to accommodate the band.
