Rolling Stones Unveil 'Shine A Light' At Huge UK PremiereApril 3, 2008
The Rolling Stones turned out in full in London tonight to officially launch their Martin Scorsese directed film, ‘Shine A Light’, in the UK.
The film, which has been produced by the band, documents their two nights at the Beacon Theatre in New York in 2006. Speaking to reporters on the Red Carpet, Ronnie Wood said the highlight of the project had been working with Scorsese. The premiere in London’s Leicester Square attracted a host of big names stars, including, Liam Gallagher, Noel Fielding and Chris Evans – who appears briefly in the film. Screened live to 100 theatres across the UK, the premiere boasted the biggest ever audience – dwarfing the blockbusters Star Wars and Titanic combined. Inside the cinema, the band officially introduced the film to a rapturous round of applause from the audience. Jagger also thanked Scorsese – who wasn’t able to attend the premiere because of film commitments in Boston alongside Leonardo Dicaprio. As well as containing all the band’s most famous hits, ‘Shine A Light’ also sees the group collaborate with five-time Grammy winner Buddy Guy, Christina Aguilera and Jack White. The film opens in cinemas across the UK from Friday (April 4th). (by Jason Gregory) See also: The Rolling Stones 'Have No Firm Plans To Tour' (02.02.2011)
