Phil Spector Appeals Against Murder Conviction

March 12, 2010
Phil Spector Appeals Against Murder ConvictionPhil Spector has appealed against his conviction for second-degree murder.

The legendary music producer was found guilty at a re-trial last year of murdering the b-movie actress Lana Clarkson in 2003.

But in a 148-page brief, Spector's lawyers called for the verdict to be overruled on the grounds of judicial error and prosecutorial misconduct.

They claim Spector was not given a fair trial after prosecutors improperly used testimony from five women who alleged that the producer had threatened them in the past, reports the BBC.

Clarkson died after she was shot in the mouth at Spector's home in Los Angeles.

Spector pleaded not guilty to Clarkson’s murder and the original trial in 2007 resulted in a hung jury.
