Aerosmith End Hawaiian Legal Dispute With Free Gig Promise

April 27, 2009
Aerosmith End Hawaiian Legal Dispute With Free Gig PromiseAerosmith are to perform a special concert in Hawaii, two years after a cancelled gig on the archipelago led to a legal dispute with fans.

The date has yet to be confirmed, but is likely to form part of the band's forthcoming North-American tour.

The announcement ends a lengthy legal dispute which was instigated after the band cancelled a free concert in Maui in 2007.

Hundreds of fans filed a class action case claiming Aerosmith scrapped the performance in order to play two shows in Chicago and Oahu instead.

At the time, ticketholders were said to have incurred between $500,000 and $3million in expenses so they could travel to the show.

Brandee Faria, a lawyer for the fans, said Aerosmith had agreed to play a free gig and would reimburse all out-of-pocket fans.

Aerosmith's lawyer, Jay Handlin, told the BBC the band were pleased to have resolved the dispute.

"The band is about the music. So they are glad to be able to resolve this in a way that really focuses on connecting or reconnecting the people of Hawaii with the band and its music,” he said.

Aerosmith are expected to release a new album later this year.
