The Verve Beat Slipknot In The Race For Number One

September 1, 2008
The Verve Beat Slipknot In The Race For Number OneDespite extremely mixed reviews, The Verve have claimed the number one slot in the album chart this week with 'Forth'.

Their fourth album and first release in a decade knocked Irish trio The Script from their perch at the top of the charts.

Masked Iowa metal outfit Slipknot narrowly missed out on the top spot entering at number two with their fourth studio album 'All Hope Is Gone'.

Michael Jackson's greatest hits album, 'King of Pop', released to coincide with his 50th birthday only managed to reach number five in the chart.

The singles chart saw the ubiquitous Katy Perry remain at number one for a fourth week with 'Kissed A Girl', fending off competition from Eric Prydz' 'Pjanoo' at two.

Biffy Clyro climbed the chart to number five with their single 'Mountains' which was released physically this week.
