Jay-Z And Oasis Get Massive Glastonbury Chart BoostJuly 2, 2008
![]() The rapper's 2004 single '99 Problems' is expected to chart in the top-25 this weekend, while his collaboration with Linkin Park, 'Numb/Encore', looks set to crack the top-40. Jay-Z has also helped boost the sales ofthe Oasis 'Wonderwall', which was originally released in 1995. The rapper opened his set with the track after the band's guitarist Noel Gallagher quipped in the build-up to the event that it was “wrong” for a hip-hop act to headline the festival. The BBC reports that sales of 'What's The Story (Morning Glory)', the album the song featured on, and Oasis's recent best of, 'Stop The Clocks', have also increased by 200% and 140% respectively. Other bands who are heading back up the charts thanks to their performances at Glastonbury include Elbow, whose latest album 'The Seldom Seen Kid' should break the top-20 again, and Friday night headliners Kings Of Leon. Records by Editors, The Feeling and The Raconteurs also look set to climb back up the charts. (by Jason Gregory) See also: |
