Kanye West Wins Big At American Music AwardsNovember 24, 2008
Kanye West challenged his fellow rivals to up their game last night (November 23rd) as he collected two American Music Awards in Los Angeles.
West, who won Favourite Male Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Rap/Hip-Hop Album, said it was the “responsibly” of musicians “to keep pushing each other”. "We will be the new Beatles, the new (Jimi) Hendrix. I want to be Elvis,” he added. US R&B star Chris Brown was the biggest winner of the night, taking home three prizes, including Artist of the Year. "I'm so thankful and grateful. I thought Coldplay should have won the award, but I'll take it,” Brown told reporters. The singer also collected Favourite male artist in the Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B prizes – a feet mirrored by his girlfriend Rihanna in the female categories. Performances at the Nokia Theatre came from Miley Cyrus, Ne-Yo and Beyonce, while Christina Aguilera attempted to steal the show with a hit laden set.
