Slipknot and Motley Crue DVDs Could Be Banned For Children

January 11, 2010
Slipknot and Motley Crue DVDs Could Be Banned For ChildrenMusic DVDs by Motley Crue, Slipknot and Gorgoroth could be prohibited for children under proposals by a Labour MP.

Currently many DVDs in the fields of music, sport and religion are exempt from classification in the UK meaning that potentially adult material can be bought and freely watched by youngsters.

Now, Hendon MP Andrew Dismore is calling for the classification exemption loophole in the Video Recordings Act 1984 to be addressed.

He tells The Telegraph: “What's happening is that responsible video companies and distributors will get an age rating for 15 or 18 releases, but some others will not. Many of these would probably be 15.

“The problem is that many of these are marked on shelves as E for exempt and parents may see the ones that are marked responsibly and then these ones and they may automatically assume that they are OK for kids - but they're not.

“We don't need to catch everything - if it is just an ordinary football game or pop star it won't apply but if it is a violent martial arts film or extreme music video, it will.''

Slipknot's 10th Anniversary DVD featuring self-mutilation by two teenage girls is currently exempt from classification in the UK and would be given a rating under the new proposals.

Similarly, Gorgoroth's 'Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam', which features crucifixions and decapitated sheeps' heads, and Motley Crue's 'Greatest Video Hits', which includes topless dancers, are exempt at the moment.
