Pete Doherty Released From Prison After 29 DaysMay 6, 2008
Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty has been released from jail after serving just 29 days of a 14 week sentence.
Doherty was imprisoned last month for breaking his probation order and using drugs. The singer was greeted by a media scrum when he left Wormwood Scrubs prison this morning (May 6th) dressed in a suit and tie. Speaking to waiting reporters, he said that prison life had been “a lot of gangsters and Radio 4”. Asked whether he had taken drugs during his incarceration, Doherty replied: “Well, I knew it was going to be a bit rough to start with, repeated with the overcrowding and the medical facilities although they do their best - they are good, they can't really cater for the average junkie." Doherty was forced to cancel a solo show at the Royal Albert Hall last month because of his sentencing. The show will be rescheduled. According to the Associated Press, Doherty borrowed a journalists phone in order to arrange a lift from prison.
