John Lennon 70th Birthday Celebrations Announced

John Lennon 70th Birthday Celebrations AnnouncedA series of events to mark what would have been John Lennon’s 70th birthday have been announced by his widow Yoko Ono.

The celebrations will conclude with a performance by the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band on October 9 in Iceland.

Ono is also due to present the Lennon Ono Grant for Peace award to four figures chosen for their contribution to world peace.

Recipients include the author of a book about the interaction of nature and society, a food safety campaigner and an environmental documentary maker.

Lennon would have turned 70 on October 9. He was shot dead in New York in December 1980.

In July, a time capsule project was announced to ensure the foremr Beatle's legacy was maintained.
