'Imagine' Named Most Popular John Lennon SongDecember 8, 2010
The song 'Imagine' has been named the most-popular John Lennon track on the 30th anniversary of his death.
The track, released in 1971, topped a special chart compiled by the Performing Rights Society (PRS). Lennon's "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)" was second and 'Jealous Guy' came third. PRS Chairman Ellis Rich said: "Lennon's iconic songs inspired and symbolised the ideals of the masses, so it's no surprise that 30 years after his death his songs are still as popular as ever. "His invaluable contribution to the music industry has shaped and inspired countless other musicians. It is absolutely right and fitting to remember him on this anniversary and for the effect his song catalogue has had on all of our lives." Lennon, who would have also celebrated his 70th birthday this year, was shot dead outside his New York home on December 8, 1980. His widow Yoko Ono has led the tributes, while fans are gathering at iconic locations around the world. (by Jason Gregory) See also: Yoko Ono: John Lennon Would Have Loved Lady Gaga (28.12.2010)
