Wyclef Jean To Announce Presidential Bid This WeekAugust 4, 2010
Wyclef Jean is expected to announce his intentions to run for president of Haiti later this week.
CNN reports that the former Fugees star will announce his candidacy during an appearance on Larry King Live on Thursday (August 5). Jean has already confirmed his intention to take part in the election process this November, but until now he has refrained from confirming his candidacy. Last week, his family released a statement which suggested he hoped to become president. "Wyclef's commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless,” they said. The rapper was appointed ambassador for Haiti in 2007. And in recent months he has played a key role in helping the country overcome January's devastating earthquake.
