Iyaz Knocks Lady Gaga Off Top Of Singles ChartJanuary 11, 2010
R&B newcomer Iyaz is number one in the singles chart this week after selling 106,000 copies of his single 'Replay'.
The 22-year-old from the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean last month hit number two in the US with the song. Dutch house DJ Sidney Sampson has entered at number two shifting 97,000 units of 'Riverside (Let's Go)', while 3OH!3's 'Starstrukk' featuring Katy Perry is at three. Last week's number one Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance' has slipped to number four while the ubiquitous 'You Got The Love' by Florence & The Machine is at five. Martin Talbot, Managing Director of the Official Charts Company said: “You might expect a sales lull at this time of year, but Iyaz and Sidney Sampson clearly defy expectations. To have two singles selling such significant numbers in the first chart of the year is fantastic. ” Over one the album chart Paolo Nutini's 'Sunny Side Up' remains at number one for a second week with Florence & The Machine's 'Lungs' has climbed to two. Thanks to an advertising push, Mumford & Sons' 'Sigh No More' has climbed to seven. (by Scott Colothan) |
