Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has been released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of assault.

Wood, 62, was taken into custody following an alleged "domestic incident" involving his girlfriend, Ekaterina Ivanova, in Surrey.

The 20-year-old is understood to have claimed that the guitarist had attacked her during a row.

A police spokesman told the Press Association Wood had been released on bail until a date next month.

Wood and Ivanova, a former waitress, began dating in 2008.

Last month, the guitarist's wife of 24 years, Jo, divorced her ex-husband on the grounds of adultery.
