Michael Jackson Set For Huge Royalties Boost Following Death

July 3, 2009
Michael Jackson Set For Huge Royalties Boost Following DeathMichael Jackson's estate looks set to be boostered substantially by royalty payments following the singer's sudden death.

Sales of Jackson's music and his radio airplay has increased dramatically over the last seven days, PRS for Music said.

The organisation, which represents musicians and songwriters, said Jackson had received an “unprecedented 1,735%” increase in the amount of airplay compared to the week before his death.

Although the singer often worked with songwriters, Jackson wrote a number of his biggest hits, including 'Billie Jean' and 'Beat It'.

In most cases, if there is no prior agreement, 50% of royalty payments go to the creators of a song.

As previously reported, in his 2002 will Jackson left his estate to The Jackson Family Trust Fund, which includes his three children.

Meanwhile, music retailer HMV has reported a 500% rise in sales of the star's music, while online retailers are struggling to keep up with demand.

Jackson currently tops the UK and US album charts after fans sought out the star's recordings following his death on June 25.

His chart dominance is set to continue this week with a number of singles on course to enter the singles chart top-10 in the UK.
