Jack White Writes Poem To 'Show Love For Detroit'July 8, 2008
White Stripes frontman Jack White has written a poem about Detroit, in which he declares his love for the city.
The poem, published in Sunday's edition of the Detroit Free Press, follows controversial comment's the singer made about the city in 2006. In an interview with the Associated Press, White said the that he and his wife, the British model Karen Elson, had relocated to Nashville from Detroit because they “couldn’t take the negativity anymore”. Speaking about the poem, White said that “those expressions of mine have never been a representation of my feelings about Detroit the city, a town that I have strong feelings about ... nor were they expressions about its citizens." He also said that it represents his strong feelings for the city and that the poem is the “Detroit that is in my heart. The home that encapsulates and envelops those who are truly blessed with the experience of living within its boundaries."
