Goodnight
. . .

meow
meow
hey let's dance
well i know one
it's so much fun
it's the kookiest dance
under the sun
it's called the boodanee
do the boodanee
123
let's do the boodanee

all you gotta do is curl up in a ball
then step two
you do nothing at all
this is the dance that my kitty cat does
n' that's part one called the circle of fuzz

the next big step
is the stand up and stretch
this is the one that i love the best
you get real long from head to tail
stick up your butt and get thin as a nail

now step three
ya see something in the air?
by something i mean something
that's not even there
you grab at it with your sweet smelling paws
there's no reason for this - it's just because
then you run around like a lunatic
hopping sideways and your tail gets thick
you keep doing this till you're sick of it
or till somebody quips hey stop it!

meow
meow
do the boodanee
123 do the boodanee

you can bark all you want about this dance or that
but if you wanna be cool you gotta be a cat
and do the boodanee
123
do the boodanee

when the whole thing's done
and you're one tired pup
go over to your bowl and lick your supper up
then smack your lips
and put your nose in the air
just walk away
like you don't care

you did the boodanee
123
you did the boodanee
yeah!

If I think I'm gonna have a chocolate sundae
but it's Sunday
And when I get to the door of the ice cream store
it says closed
Sitting down on the sidewalk
I feel like I'm gonna cry
You can call me silly but I don't think I am
and here's why

I'm disappointed disappointed
I didn't get what I wanted
I might get over it someday
but for now I think I'll stay
Disappointed that's all

Shelly's coming over for a playdate and I can't wait
But just before the doorbell rings
the telephone does and it brings
the bad news
Shelly's mom says she's not coming
she's come down with the flu
We were gonna have some fun but now there's
nothing to do

I'm disappointed
I didn't get what I wanted
I might get over it someday
but for now I think I'll stay
Disappointed that's all

Woke up yesterday and it was snowing
I won't be going
I lay in bed and realized I was a little bit surprised
it felt good
Because the place that I was going
wasn't circus it was school
Instead of being angry I was happy I was cool

Not disappointed
This time I got what I wanted
I didn't know it at first
then I jumped up with a burst
Not disappointed that's all

. . .

i met the most beautiful turtle today
her head was hid in her shell
those lovely eyes were peeking at me
ooo she was scared i could tell

i'm a dime a dozen toad
nothing super duper about me
i seem the same as everyone here
in the toad community

will you be my friend?
will you be my friend?
will you be my friend?

o toad, nobody talks to me here
i thank you, it's been a long time
i have been waiting on the sidelines
wishing for someone so kind

will you be my friend?
will you be my friend?
will you be my friend?

at first we could not find a game
that the two of us knew
she got quiet i was shy
we did not know what to do

yeah! then she just happened to smile
smiling was ok for now
that's when i knew turtles and toads,
toads and turtles
could have fun somehow

will you be my friend?
will you be my friend?
will you be my friend?

. . .

someday i'm gonna get a dog
and the dog's gonna run free
and i won't need a collar or a leash
cause i'll be living in the country

and when somebody doesn't want to play
i'm gonna open up the door wide
and i'll be runnin' in the tall grass
with my own dog by my side

and when i find a secret hiding place
i'll make a soft pillow out of hay
and i'll share it with my happy dog
we will stay there for the whole day

i love to be free
that's the best thing about me
and there's a rover in the world now
with the same dream so we
will find our way home
when the colors of the sunset
i see them stretch across a big sky
that's a good feeling we get

and by the time i go to sleep at night
i'm ready for tomorrow as i doze
i got a warm cover over me
sleeping rover on my toes

someday i'm gonna get a dog
and the dog's gonna run free
and i won't need a collar or a leash
'cause we'll be living in the country

living in the country!
living in the country!

uncle dave he misbehaved
he painted the firetruck green
even though he painted the firetruck green
that don't mean that he is mean

uncle dave he misbehaved
he ate all the food on the plane
even though he ate all the food on the plane
that don't mean he won't eat again

uncle dave he misbehaved
he took the train to brooklyn
even though he took the train to brooklyn
that don't mean he ain't good lookin'

uncle dave he misbehaved
he changed his name to tony
even though he changed his name to tony
that don't mean that he's a phony

uncle dave he misbehaved
he said he didn't like this song
even though he said he didn't like this song
that don't mean he won't sing along

uncle dave he misbehaved
he forgot to fold up his pants
even though he forgot to fold up his pants
that don't mean they're full of ants

. . .

time to do the laundry
search your room for any dirty clothes
this week's load is really smelly
you might want to put a clothespin on your nose

i check underneath the bed and dresser
for fallen change
while mom rubs the detergent into
the grubby stains
put the pile in the purple laundry bag that dad
gave mom for her birthday years ago
even though that bag is full of holes

mama lifts it up and just like santa claus
goes out the door
i'm the helping elf i pick up socks and underwear
that might have fallen on the floor
down the stairs to the sidewalk 'round the corner
and we're there
to our very own favorite laundromat
where they like us 'cause we keep coming back

the laundry, mom and me
tweedledum and tweedle dee dee
it's always much more fun
than we think it's gonna be

i get to put the quarters in the washers
and the dryers too
instead of waiting there we go do other chores
we simply have to do

and when it's done we never fold the clean clothes
at the laundromat
we bring the whole thing back home
where we fold in peace
together all alone

the laundry, mom and me
tweedledum and tweedle dee dee
it's always much more fun
than we think it's gonna be

. . .

If you happen to live on Mars
Then I'm from Outer Space
Where we drive around in cars
And talk right out of our face

We walk around on feet
And we fly around in planes
There's this stuff called food we eat
And think with these things called brains

Greetings from the Planet Earth
To the many worlds in the Universe
Wish you were here
Hope you can come
We'll have some intergalactic fun

If you happen to live on Mercury
Then I'm an alien
And I'm in a real big hurry
To see a spaceship come sailing in

I look out the window and wonder
Who's wondering back from the stars
And I love to hear the thunder
So everyone hum a few bars

Greetings from the Planet Earth
To the many worlds in the Universe
Wish you were here
Hope you can come
We'll have some intergalactic fun

elephants are big
so's my pig
the sky is blue
but that's not true
'cause if it snows
it blows its nose

ghosts are dead
the front's ahead
the ground is down
wheels are round
it's ok with me
if these things be but

i wanna scream
when kids are mean
when kids are mean

the freezer's cold
grandma's old
my head's on top
my feet can hop
it's ok with me
if these things be but

i wanna scream
when kids are mean
when kids are mean

pizza's good
trees are wood
the moon's outside
and cowboys ride
it's ok with me
if these thing be but

i wanna scream
when kids are mean
when kids are mean

. . .

my new bicycle is race car blue
it used to belong to my big sister sue
she grew a little too tall
then traded it to me
for my old basketball.

riding that thing
i gotta sing
it's a blast
i never believed
i could go so fast

up and down hills
zipping through the town
past the reservoir
when the sun slips down

i'm flying!

back home i collected some rags
i snuck them out of my ma's old clothes bags
bucket of water
and a squirt of soap
my bicycle's as clean
as the soul of a pope

. . .

There's a magic in our little room
Floating up like a colored balloon
It goes right to the top
Just so it can pop
And sprinkle down the sound of a tune

Hey yea
And hey yo
Hey whadayasay
And hey whadayaknow
Hey yea
And hey yo
Hey here we come
And hey here we go

The next thing you know there's a song
It's made up as we go along
Then when we hear it
It brightens our spirit
And we know that we can't go wrong

Hey yea
And hey yo
Hey whadayasay
And hey whadayaknow
Hey yea
And hey yo
Hey here we come
And hey here we go

. . .

little bitty betty
you're a baby
little bitty betty
could you maybe
go to sleep now
your mama's so tired

little bitty betty
little lady
underneath the tree
cool and shady
get lazy with me
that's all i require

dreaming's a vacation from being awake
all you gotta do is take
a little nap with me
are you ready?

little bitty betty
gettin' weepy
i'm gonna rock ya steady
till you're sleepy
rollin' the stroller around
but your eyes are open wider

little bitty betty
she's a fighter
no jack or jim or eddy
could hold a match beside her
why don't you lay down your arms
and just retire?

come with me to the land of make believe
you'll float your boat into a dream
if you fall asleep with me
are you ready?

little bitty betty
baby listen
curl up there with your teddy
you don't know what you're missin'
one baby for sale
will anybody buy her?

little bitty betty
i love you baby
but oh boy baby betty
you drive me crazy
go to sleep now
your mama's so tired

. . .

i love somebody named lovey
please don't tell anybody
lovey has no money
or hope of a job
yeah, take a look at the room
that pearl is a slob
why o why do I love lovey?

i hung a picture on the wall
if you see what i saw then you'd know it all
smiling like an angel
eyes honest and true
if you got introduced
well, you'd love lovey too
my o my that lovey

someday
you might have to wander
away from me
if you go far
hop into a car
and come to visit
come to visit me

i love somebody named lovey
yes i do
and you don't have to tell me
i'm lucky
some people are lonely
cryin' in the beer
but i got so much love
the aches and the pains
and the moaning and the groaning disappear
(for a while)
time after time with lovey

someday
you might have to wander
away from me
if you go far
i wish upon a star
you come to visit
come to visit me

. . .

Goodnight
