Arctic Monkeys, Jarvis Cocker Set For New Tony Christie AlbumJuly 31, 2008
Cover of the Arctic Monkeys and The Human League will appear on a new album by Tony Christie, which pays homage to legendary musicians from Sheffield.
'Made In Sheffield', which has been produced by Richard Hawley, also includes a new song written by former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker. Speaking about the project, Hawley revealed that Christie had approached him about the idea, and that he had sought the permission of all the acts included. "We've done a version of 'The Only Ones Who Know' by the Arctic Monkeys which is quite radically different from their version,” Hawley told 6Music. "Jarvis has written a song as well. It's quite an eclectic bunch of writers but we’ve got really excited about hearing songs done in a really different context and just hearing how exciting Tony's voice still is. He's an amazing singer." The album will also give the chance for less well known acts from Sheffield to be given a share of the spotlight, Hawley says. "Some of the writers are very obscure and they've never had the breaks they deserve," Hawley said. "So, it's an honour to put them forward. I was just aware that there was a lot more to Sheffield than means the eye and a lot of songwriters from Sheffield who'd never got a break.” (by Jason Gregory) See also: Arctic Monkeys Cook Up A Storm In LA (28.04.2011)
