Eels Invite President Bush To Washington Show

March 14, 2008
Eels Invite President Bush To Washington ShowJust last month Mark Oliver ‘E’ Everett of the Eels invited Her Majesty the Queen to attend his Royal Festival Hall show in London who sadly failed to turn up.

Now on his North American jaunt, E has turned his attention to President George W Bush and the First Lady. Yep, he has sent a letter to Dubya and his missus inviting them to attend his Washington D.C show on March 29.

President Bush famously lambasted Eels’ album ‘Daisies of the Galaxy’ in 2000 for containing “obscene songs” like ‘It’s A Motherfucker’ when his people found out it was being given out for free at Democrat rallies.

But the forgiving type, E has now put this behind him and wants to bury the hatchet. In the letter, obtained by Billboard, he writes:

"You may recall using our album 'Daisies of the Galaxy' as an example during your campaign for the presidency in 2000. The album was supposed to be a bad example for the kids of America.

"Mr. President, I know that you're a Christian, and Christ taught forgiveness. So in the spirit of forgiveness and fence-mending, I'd like to let bygones be bygones..."

The Washington show is being held at a synagogue, but offering a compromise for the devoutly Christian President, E continues:

“If you're more comfortable at a different house of worship, we're also doing concerts at church in Philadelphia and New Haven the nights before and after the D.C. show. In the name of tolerance, we are trying to represent many faiths on this tour.”
