Elbow Album Named 'Ultimate' Critics' Choice Of 2008December 30, 2008
Elbow’s Mercury Prize-winning album ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’ has been named album of the year in a survey of critics and fans.
The “poll of polls” saw Portishead’s ‘Third’ come in second, while Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' ‘Dig, Lazarus, Dig’ was third. Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend were fourth and fifth respectively with their self-titled efforts. The survey combined votes from music critics, fans and staff at music retailer HMV. ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’ was nominated by 18 out of 35 outlets. TV on the Radio, Bon Iver and Glasvegas also featured in the Top-10. HMV rock and pop buyer Damian Evans said “few people would dispute that Elbow have given us the album of the year."
