Lady Gaga has said that the video for her new single 'Born This Way' is about the “birth of a new race”.

The video, directed by Nick Knight, was released yesterday (February 28), and shows the singing apparently giving birth to an alien-like creature.

"It's the story about the birth of a new race,” the singer told BBC Radio 1.

"A race that bears no prejudice and a race that's primary sort of ambition in life is to inspire unity and togetherness."

Lady Gaga added that the video had been important to her because “the song is very meaningful to me”.

'Born This Way' is the first track to be taken from the singer's forthcoming album of the same name, due out in May.
