Lady Gaga is going head-to-head with US president Barack Obama to become the first living celebrity to have more than 10 million fans on Facebook.

The US singer currently has 9,124,095 fans compared to Obama's 9,103,097.

Both are currently 4 million behind Michael Jackson, who has 13,285,811 fans. The King of Pop's popularity on the site has grown since his death a year ago today (June 25).

Obama, who has been an advocate of social-networking sites, uses his Facebook page to promote his policies.

Lady Gaga's fans meanwhile are able to keep up with her whereabouts via her page.

In a recent post, she said: “Eltonball! Dead bodies in trees, wheelchairs and tiaras. You sure know the way to a girls heart. Warming up. Mother Monster.”
