Paul McCartney: 'The Beatles Would Have Reformed Today'

May 18, 2010
Paul McCartney: 'The Beatles Would Have Reformed Today'Sir Paul McCartney has suggested that The Beatles would have reformed today had all the group's members still been alive.

In an interview with the Mail on Sunday, the singer revealed that the band turned down offers to reform shortly after their split in 1970 due to other commitments.

But he said that if John Lennon and George Harrison were still alive today they could have played together again under the right circumstances.

“It could have happened,” he said. “We were asked to do reunion gigs shortly after we broke up. There wasn't any point. It was like, 'We've just split!'

"I also had Wings so I was a bit busy doing other things.

“It wasn't really a good idea then, but I think if this much time had elapsed, I could easily see it happening. Somebody would have said, 'Oh go on. Just for a laugh'.”

Sir Paul added: "It could have been a charity thing. Or it could have been because we just met up and said, 'Let's do it'.

“You never know. But it's not to be, so sadly it's all just conjecture."

As previously reported, Sir Paul is set to embark on a UK and Ireland stadium tour this summer.
