Ronnie James Dio Dies Aged 67May 17, 2010
Heavy metal musician Ronnie James Dio has died at the age of 67.
Dio, who replaced Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath, passed away at his home on Sunday morning (May 16). The vocalist is understood to have been battling cancer. In a statement on Dio's website www.ronniejamesdio.com his wife Wendy said "my heart is broken". "Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away," the statement said. "Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us." In 2006, Dio joined Heaven and Hell with his former Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and drummer Vinny Appice.
