Rare Beatles Gig Footage Fetches 4000 Pounds At Auction

November 5, 2008
Rare Beatles Gig Footage Fetches 4000 Pounds At AuctionRare footage of The Beatles performing in Kansas has fetched £4,100 at an auction in Reading.

The two minute video, shot on 8mm film, was filmed during the band's first American tour in 1964.

Beatles fan Drew Dimmel discovered the video lying in a draw two months ago when he was clearing out his parent's estate. It's thought it had remained there for nearly 50 years.

Dimmell told the BBC that his father had allowed him to take the camera to the concert at the Municipal Stadium.

But the footage which was sold at auction was actually shot by a journalist who offered to film the band after Dimmel was informed that he wasn't permitted.

"It is the one and only motion picture in existence of the one and only concert the Beatles would ever perform in Kansas City,” he said.
