Pete Doherty Royal Albert Hall Show Hit By Stage Invasion

July 14, 2008
Pete Doherty Royal Albert Hall Show Hit By Stage InvasionPete Doherty triumphed at a solo show in front of 5,500 people at the hallowed surroundings of the Royal Albert Hall in London on Saturday night (July 12).

Despite the well received set full of Libertines and Babyshambles classics, a stage invasion at the end forced Doherty to cut the encore short.

Around 100 fans clambered onto the stage while Pete was performing 'I Wish' before security intervened and Pete sloped off stage. Some fans fell from the stage in the carnage.

Earlier in the night, a fresh faced Pete arrived onstage looking strangely resplendent in a full dark suit and white shirt and proceeded to bash out acoustic versions of hits including 'Lady Don't Fall Back', 'What Became Of The Likely Lads', 'This is for Lovers', 'Bollywood To Battersea' and 'Fuck Forever.'

The show was originally scheduled for April 26, but was postponed when Doherty was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison for breaching probation earlier this year. He eventually served just 29 days.

Pete took time to have a cheeky swipe at fans who'd written letters to him in prison about the cancelled show. He quipped to the crowd: "I got a few letters when I was in Wormwood Scrubs about how inconvenient it was. I thought 'Yeah, it must be really difficult' as I sat in my little cell."

He also recounted tales of hedonistic adventures with former Libertine band member Carl Barat and at one point got out a pair of binoculars so he could see the back of the room.
