I grew up a-dreamin' of bein' a cowboy,
Lovin' the cowboy ways.
Pursuin' the life of my high-ridin' heroes,
I burned up my childhood days.
I learned all the rules of the modern-day drifter,
Don't you hold on to nothin' too long.
Just take what you need from the ladies, then leave them,
With the words of a sad country song.
My heroes have always been cowboys.
And they still are, it seems.
Sadly, in search of, but one step in back of,
Themselves and their slow-movin' dreams.

Cowboys are special with their own brand of misery,
From being alone too long.
You could die from the cold in the arms of a nightmare,
Knowin' well your best days are gone.
Pickin' up hookers instead of my pen,
I let the words of my years fade away.
Old worn-out saddles, an 'old worn-out memories,
With no one and no place to stay.

My heroes have always been cowboys.
And they still are, it seems.
Sadly, in search of, but one step in back of,
Themselves and their slow-movin' dreams.

Low down leaving sun,
I've done did everything that needs done
Woe is me, why can't i see
I best be leaving well enough alone

Them neon light nights, couldn't stay out of fights
Them keep a-haunting me in memories
There's one in every crowd
for crying out loud
Why was it always turning out be me

Chorus:
Where does it go,the good Lord only knows
It seems like it was just the other day
I was down at Green Gables, hawking them tables
And generally blowing all my hard earned pay
Piano rolled blues, danced holes in my shoes
There weren't another other way to be
For loveable losers, no account boozers
And honky tonk heroes like me

You Mean to Say

[No lyrics]

. . .

We're caught in a trap can't walk out
Because I love you too much baby
Why can't you see what you're doing to me
When you don't believe a word I'm saying.

We can't go on together
With suspicious minds
We can't do our dreams
On suspicious minds.

I saw an old friend I know I stopped to say hello
Would I could still see suspicion in your eyes
Here we go again you ask me where I've been
You can't see the tears are real I'm crying.

We can't go on together
With suspicious minds
We can't build our dreams
On suspicious minds.

Let our love survive
Or dry the tears from your eyes
Don't let a good thing die
Don't you know I never lied to you?

We're caught in a trap can't walk out.
Caught in a trap can't walk out...

She's a good-hearted woman in love with a good-timin' man
She loves him in spite of his wicked ways
She don't understand
Through teardrops and laughter,
They'll pass through this world hand in hand,
She's a good-hearted woman loving a good-timin' man.

Well, a long time forgotten
Dreams have just fell by the way
And the good life he promised
Ain't what she's living today
But she never complains of the bad times
Or bad things he's done
She just talks about the good times they've had
And all the good times to come.

She's a good-hearted woman in love with a good-timin' man
She loves him in spite of his wicked ways
She don't understand
Through teardrops and laughter,
They'll pass through this world hand in hand,
She's a good-hearted woman loving a good-timin' man.

He likes the bright light, the nite life
And good-timin' friends
When the party's all over
She'll welcome him back home again
She don't understand him,
But she does the best that she can
This good-hearted woman
Lovin' a good-timin' man.

She's a good-hearted woman in love with a good-timin' man
She loves me in spite of my wicked ways
She don't understand
Through teardrops and laughter,
They'll pass through this world hand in hand,
She's a good-hearted woman loving a good-timin' man.
She's a good-hearted woman loving a good-timin' man.

Sometimes it's heaven,sometimes it's hell
Sometimes i don't even know
Sometimes i take it as far as i can
Sometimes i don't even go

Chorus:
My front tracks are headed for a cold water well
My back tracks are covered in snow
Sometimes it's heaven,sometimes it's hell
Sometimes i don't even know

Heaven ain't walking a street paved with gold
Hell ain't a mountain of fire
Heaven is laying in my sweet baby's arms
Hell is when my baby's not there

Chorus bis:(a tone higher)
My front tracks are headed for a cold water well
My back tracks are covered in snow
Sometimes it's heaven,sometimes it's hell
Sometimes i don't even know

Sometimes it's heaven,sometimes it's hell
Sometimes i don't even know

Lord it's been rough and rocky travelin' but I'm finally standing upright on the ground
After taking several readings I'm surprised to find my mind's still fairly sound
I thought Nashville was the roughest but I guess I've said the same about them all
Upon hell of an education in the cities of this nation me and Tompaul
I got busted in Laredo for reasons that I'd rather not disclose
If you're stayin' in a motel there and leave there don't leave nothin' in your clothes
At the airport in Milwaukee they refused to let us board the plane at all
They said we looked suspicious but I think they like to pick on me and Paul
( guitar )
On a package show in Buffalo with us and Kitty Wells and Charlie Pride
The show was long and I just hung around
And I'd come there to pick not for the ride
We drunk a lot of whiskey so I ain't sure we went on that night at all
I don't think they even missed us I guess Buffalo ain't geared for me and Tompaul

Yesterday's Wine

[No lyrics]

. . .

(Jimmie Rodgers)

Yeah, T for Texas, T for Tennessee
I said T for Texas, T for Tennessee
T for that no good woman, no good gal
That made a wreck out of me, Lord.

--- Instrumental ---

I'd rather drink myself muddy water
Sleep all night in a hollow log
I'd rather drink a muddy water
Sleep all night in a hollow log
Than to hang around now and be put down
And treated like a dirty dog.

--- Instrumental ---

If you don't want me woman
Just say so that's all
If you don't want me woman
all you gotta do is come around and say so that's all
Cause I can get myself more women
Than a passanger train can haul.

--- Instrumental ---

T for Texas, T for Tennessee
I said T for Texas, T for Tennessee
T for Thelma, no good gal
That made a wreck of me.

(Come hear me yodel)...
