Beatles' Eleanor Rigby Signature Raises 115,000 Pounds

November 28, 2008
Beatles' Eleanor Rigby Signature Raises 115,000 PoundsAn accounts log which features the signature of Eleanor Rigby, the woman named in a song by the Beatles, has fetched £115,000 at auction.

The document, which stats that E. Rigby worked at the City Hospital in Parkhill, was the star piece at the Idea Generation Gallery last night (November 27th).

Sir Paul McCartney sent the accounts log to The Sunbeam Trust after the charity's Annie Mawson wrote to him requesting a small financial donation in 1990.

The singer has previously claimed that he knew little about the identity of the woman, who is said to have inspired the Beatles track 'Eleanor Rigby'.

But a grave of an Eleanor Rigby was discovered in Liverpool in the 1980s in the churchyard of St. Peter’s Parish in Woolton – a place both Sir Paul and band mate John Lennon were known to visit.

The Sunbeam Trust, which provides music therapy for children with disabilities, will use the money generated from the auction to build a new centre.
