Tom Jones Set To Become Oldest Male UK Chart TopperJuly 28, 2010
Sir Tom Jones is on course to become the oldest male artist to top the UK album chart.
The 70-year-old singer's new LP 'Praise & Blame' is outselling current number one 'Recovery' by Eminem, midweek figures suggest. Sir Tom first held the accolade in 1999 with 'Reload', which went to number one when he was 60. Bob Dylan - aged 67 - then claimed the crown in 2009 with 'Together Through Life'. "I couldn't be more proud of this album and I'm really blown away by the response from everyone,” Sir Tom said. “It's great to be top of the charts with Eminem, maybe next time we could be top together." Jones's new album has been warmly received by critics – including Gigwise – for its interpretations of American gospel, blues, traditional and country songs. The UK's official number one will be announced on Sunday at 7pm. (by Jason Gregory) See also: Tom Jones To Play Isle Of Wight Festival 2011 (26.11.2010)
