Radiohead and Robert Plant Lead Mercury Music Prize NominationsJuly 22, 2008
The nominations for this year's Mercury Music prize have just been announced at The Hospital at Covent Garden.
As widely predicted, Radiohead's 'In Rainbows' and Robert Plant's collaboration with Alison Krauss 'Raising Sand' are in the running for the prestigious honour. Also up are Adele's '19', Elbow's 'Seldom Seen Kid', The Last Shadow Puppets' 'The Age of Understatement', Estelle's 'Shine', Neon Neon's 'Stainless Style', Laura Marling's 'Alas, I Cannot Swim' and British Sea Power's 'Do You Like Rock Music?'. Less mainstream nominations come in the shape of dubstep musician Burial with his eponymous album, folk outfit Rachel Unthank and the Winterset with 'The Bairns' and the obligatory jazz nomination 'Knee Deep In The North Sea' by The Portico Quartet. Radiohead and Last Shadow Puppets are currently joint favourites to scoop the gong in September at 5/1 odds. Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Burial and Elbow are close behind at 6/1.
