Paul McCartney Wants To Release Beatles' 'Carnival Of Light'November 17, 2008
Sir Paul McCartney has said “the time has come” to release the Beatles ‘lost’ track ‘Carnival of Light’.
The improvised song was recorded in 1967 in between sessions for the track ‘Penny Lane’. The band only played the fourteen minute recording, which includes psychedelic shrieks, live once. Sir Paul acknowledged that the song “does exist” during an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row programme. He said he had the master recording and that “the time has come for it to get its moment". "I like it because it's the Beatles free, going off piste," he added. It’s thought the song could prove that the Beatles were far more avant-garde than originally thought. Sir Paul will need the blessing of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, the widow of John Lennon, and George Harrison’s widow Olivia before releasing the song.
