Michael Jackson Moonwalking Loafers Smash Estimate At AuctionDecember 17, 2009
The loafers and Fedora hat worn by Michael Jackson during one of his infamous moonwalks have fetched £22,800 at auction.
The two items sold for nearly double their estimate at Bonham's in London on Wednesday. They were worn by Jackson during a performance of 'Billie Jean' at Madison Square Garden in New York in 2001. Other Jackson memorabilia under the hammer yesterday included a pair of Jackson 5 stage jeans and a rare cassette demo. The top-selling item was Ray Lowry's original cover art for The Clash's 1979 LP 'London Calling', which sold for £72,000. The entertainment sale was the latest collection of memorabilia to be auctioned since Jackson's sudden death in June.
