Axed Michael Jackson Tribute Concert 'Was Badly Organised'September 25, 2009
An axed Michael Jackson tribute concert in Vienna would have been “very interesting” had it been organised better, the city's mayor has said.
The gig, which was due to take place tomorrow (September 26), was cancelled after a number of artists were forced to drop out because of scheduling conflicts. The concert is now scheduled for next June, in London, with Wembley Stadium being tipped as a potential venue. During a council meeting in Vienna, Mayor Michael Haupl said the tribute would have been "very interesting... had it been properly prepared and organised but it was not". At the time of the cancellation, Vienna event promoter Georg Kindel told reporters they had “underestimated” the lack of notice given to artists. According to the BBC, authorities in Vienna had agreed to subside the tribute, but the funding was withdrawn when artists began pulling out. 65,000 fans were expected to attend the concert at Vienna's former imperial Schoenbrunn Palace, which had been organised by Jackson's brother, Jermaine. Jackson died on June 25 at his rented home in Los Angeles of acute Propofol intoxication. (by Jason Gregory) See also: Michael Jackson Heal The World Lawsuit Resolved (20.04.2011)
