Dame Elizabeth Taylor Boycotts Michael Jackson's Memorial Service

Dame Elizabeth Taylor, one of Michael Jackson’s closest friends, has said she plans to boycott the star’s memorial service in Los Angeles later.

Dame Elizabeth had been asked by organisers to speak at the Staples Centre.

But in a message on her Twitter page, the actress said she didn’t want to be “part of the public whoopla”.

She wrote: “And I cannot guarantee that I would be coherent to say a word.

“I just don't believe that Michael would want me to share my grief with millions of others. How I feel is between us. Not a public event.

“I said I wouldn't go to the Staples Center and I certainly don't want to become a part of it. I love him too much.”

Jackson, who died last month, became close friends with Dame Elizabeth two decades ago.

The actress, who supported Jackson at his 2005 child molestation trial – where he was acquitted – has previously said that the pair “told each other everything”.
