John Lennon 70th Birthday Celebrations AnnouncedAugust 27, 2010
A series of events to mark what would have been John Lennon’s 70th birthday have been announced by his widow Yoko Ono.
The celebrations will conclude with a performance by the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band on October 9 in Iceland. Ono is also due to present the Lennon Ono Grant for Peace award to four figures chosen for their contribution to world peace. Recipients include the author of a book about the interaction of nature and society, a food safety campaigner and an environmental documentary maker. Lennon would have turned 70 on October 9. He was shot dead in New York in December 1980. In July, a time capsule project was announced to ensure the foremr Beatle's legacy was maintained.
