Guillemots Defends Second Album Criticism

March 19, 2008
Guillemots Defends Second Album CriticismFyfe Dangerfield, front man of experimental indie outfit Guillemots, has defended the band’s second album 'Red' in an interview with BBC 6 Music.

Dangerfield said the band were "bemused" at the negative reaction to their sophomore release, which departs from the quiet introspection of ‘Through The Windowpane’ to develop a more upbeat, r’n’b sensible sound.

“It certainly seems fashionable not to like us at the moment,” Dangerfield told the BBC. “Maybe that’s just me being paranoid.”

He attributes the bad press to the band being “just a bunch of misfits,” saying, “we’re not a band that looks cool.”

Though Guillemots have always thrived on eccentricity, donning animal masks and altering live performances nightly, Dangerfield feels their quirkiness may have come back to haunt them.

Of their current reputation, Dangerfield said, "we either sound like we’re wacky, quirky people that just run around going ‘I’m mad me!’ or ‘Lets use a biscuit tin!’ or we sound like we’re prog-obsessed idiots.”
