When I was a little girl I wanted to be a soprano

But my mother said my dear you've got to practice you piano
No soprano's in to man but a piano's always grand
And grand pianos in a band make money darling
And so each afternoon when I come home from school
I practice like a bloody fool
You can't imagine all the awful things I play
I could never see a friend
I'd have to practice without end
And as the time was dripping by
I watched the clock without denial
I got the window on the sky
I wished so tearfully that i
Could come outside and play
Instead of wasting every day
Of learning something that
Without a doubt
I could have really done without
It was such a bore
And I could here the boy next door was having fun
And that was something that I'd really never done

When I was a little girl I wanted to be a soprano
But I had to sit and practice on my rotten old piano
Playing major scales and than I played the minors once again
Now up and down the keys I play and out of these
I play a tirade of all the exercises
Never any new surprises
Girl you keep your fingers wrong
What a sound
All I wanted was to sing
And not to make the raftest ring
With my old piano
Practicing I would have popped my back
I sing, I hated every minute of the keyboard I devote
That is why today I'm a soprano, but the sight of a piano
Makes me shot before I can not play a note

I Got Rhythm

[No lyrics]

. . .

I got rhythm
I got music
I got my man

[Speaking]

You play real good!
How old are you? Eight?
...I was eight once...
For a whole year!
Then I went on to the big time...
Nine...Ten...

[Singing]
I got daisies in green pastures
I got my man
Who could ask for anything more
All man trouble, I don't mind him
You won't find him
Round and round and round my door
I got starlight
I got sweet dream
I got my man
Who can ask for anything more
I got rhythm
I got music
I got my man
Johnny can only play one note
And the note he plays is this
This is just a little samba
Built upon a single note
Other notes are bound to follow
But the root is still
That note
Now this new one is the consequence
Of the one we've just concluded
As I'm bound to be the unavoidable
Consequence of you
There's so many people who can
Talk an' talk an' talk
And just say nothing
Nothing
I have used to go the scale
I know that at the end
I've come to nothing
Nothing
So I come back to my first note
As I must come back to you
I will pour into that one note
All the love I feel for you
Anyone who wants the whole show
Re mi fa sol la ti do
He would find himself with no show
Better play the note you know
Dah dah dee dee da ah ah ...
Better play the note you know !

. . .

Look at yourself...
If you had sense of humor
You would laugh to beat the band...
Look at yourself
Do you still believe the rumor
That romance is simply grand?
Since you took it right on the chin
You have lost that bright toothpaste grin
My mental state is all a-jumble
I sit around in sadly mumble
Fools rush in, so here I am!

Very glad to be unhappy
I can't win, but here I am
More than glad to be unhappy
Unrequited love's a bore and I've got it pretty bad
But for someone you adore
It's a pleasure to be sad...
Like a straying baby lamb
With no mammy and no pappy
I'm so unhappy
But, oh, so glad!

. . .

People,
People who need people,
Are the luckiest people in the world
We're children, needing other children
And yet letting a grown-up pride
Hide all the need inside
Acting more like children than children
Lovers are very special people
They're the luckiest people in the world
With one person one very special person
A feeling deep in your soul
Says you were half now you're whole
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person who needs people
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world
With one person one very special person
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person who needs people
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world...

Daddy has a business,simply secondhand
Anything from toothpicks to a baby pram
Stuff in our apartment, came from father's store
Even clothes i'm wearing, someone wore before
I'ts no wonder that i feel abused I never get a
thing that ain't been used.

Secondhand pearls I'm wearing secondhand clothes
That's why they call me secondhand Rose
Even our piana in the parlour, Daddy bought for ten cents
of a dollar
Second hand pearls, i'm wearing secondhand clothes,
I never get a single thing that's new

Even Jake the plumber he's the man I adore he had the nerve ,
To tell me he's been married before
Secondhand clothes oh I'm just secondhand Rose
On second avenue(x2)

Don't tell me not to live, just sit and putta
Life's candy and the sun's a ball of butter
Don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade

Don't tell me not to fly, I simply got to
If someone takes a spill, it's me and not you
Who told you you're allowed to rain on my parade

I'll march my band out, I'll beat my drum
And if I'm fanned out, your turn at bat, sir
At least I didn't fake it, hat, sir
I guess I didn't make it

But whether I'm the rose of sheer perfection
A freckle on the nose of life's complexion
The cinder or the shiny apple of its eye

I gotta fly once, I gotta try once
Only can die once, right, sir
Ooh, life is juicy, juicy and you see
I gotta have my bite, sir

Get ready for me love, cause I'm a "comer"
I simply gotta march, my heart's a drummer
Don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade

I'm gonna live and live now
Get what I want, I know how
One roll for the whole shebang
One throw that bell will go clang
Eye on the target and wham!
One shot, one gun shot and bam
Hey Mister, I'm still here, I am!

I'll march my band out, I'll beat my drum
And if I'm fanned out, your turn at bat, sir
At least I didn't fake it, hat, sir
I guess I didn't make it

Get ready for me love, cause I'm a "comer"
I simply gotta march, my heart's a drummer
Nobody, no nobody, is gonna rain on my parade

. . .

Don't ever leave me
Now that you're here
Here is where you belong
Everythere

Thank you!
You know this is, I haven't done a concert, in about six years. and
It's oh thank you... but it's very exciting i
Must say, but it's also terribly, terribly
Scary... ooh, God I wish I was back on the set!
Mmm, I gotta tell you this funny thing. but it's
Not so funny. but talking about being scared
I was even more scared till I spoke to friends
Of mine also performers, you know...and they
Were telling me that they also... uh ...[drinks
Tea] tastes much better that way! the japanese
Said so! anyway... they told me that in order
To conquer their fears, you know, they ... eh
Well, some of them drink; but I really hate
The taste of liquors, so i...you know, I can't
Do that... and some of them... uh ... take pills;

But I can't even swallow aspirin, so I can't
Do that, but... more important than that... i
Have found, and I believe, that performers
Should be very strong, you know, and... you don't
Know what I'm gonna say... your way ahead of me tonight.
It's still illegal? we should face our problems head
On! you know... what I was about to say you see,
I have found that the way I conquer my fear of
A performance is just to... uhm... you know,
Talk about it, and you get it out in the open,
And you discuss it with a little...excuse me...
[sniff] you just, you just talk about it freely and just...
Everything... and she's... what a fantastic
Accord you just played... what was that of f minor
7th with a demented pinky on the 5th it was really high.

. . .

I'll go my way by myself
It's how the comedy ends
I'll have to deny myself
Love and laughter and friend
I'll try to apply myself
And teach my heart how to sing
I'll go my way by myself
Like a bird on the wing
I'll face the unknown
I'll build the world of my own
No one knows better than I myself
I'm by myself
I'm by myself
I'm by myself
Alone

. . .

Hear my voice where you are
Take a train, steal a car
Hop a freight, grab a star, come back to me
Catch a plane, catch a breeze
On your hands, on your knees
Swim or fly, only please, come back to me
On a mule, in a jet
With your hair in a net
In a towel when you're wet
I don't care, this is where you should be

From the hills, from the shore
Ride the wind to my door
Turn the high with the dust
Break the law if you must
Move the world, only just come back to me

Blast you high, hear me call
Must I fight city hall
Here and now, damn it all, come back to me
What on earth must I do
Scream and yell till I'm blue
Curse your soul when will you come back to me?
Have you gone to the moon or the corner saloon
At your rack, at your room
Mademoiselle, where in hell can you be?

Leave a sign on your door
Out to lunch ever more
In a royce or a van, wrapped in mink coats or rain
Anyway that you can, come back to me
Hear my voice through the dim
Feel the waves on your skin

Like a call from within, come back to me
Leave behind all your own
Tell your flowers you will phone
Let your dog walk alone, come back to me

Let your tub overflow
If a date waits below
Let him wait for godot
By the rail,
Come by mail, cod
Par avion, par bateau
Dans une vielle, deux chevaux

Come by steam, come by gas
Call for free on a pass
On the drags and the glass, come back to me
Leave your bills all unpaid
Let your bed go unmade
Your souffle unsouffled, come back to me
Come by sail, come by freight
In a box or a tray, keep your head on the plate
I don't care this is where you should be

Come in pain or in joy
As a girl, as a boy
In a bag or a trunk (shut up!)
On a horse or a drunk
In the flora or faun, come back to me
Come back to me, come back...

"daisy"
"will you stop bothering me? "
"why, daisy, you're a bloody miracle!"

. . .

I done lost my ugly spare
I am cheerful now got the warmth all over
To smother my worried brow
Oh the girl I use to be
She ain't me no more
I closed the door on the girl I was before
Feeling fine and full of bliss
What I really wanna say is this
I never has seen snow
All the same I know
Snow ain't so beautiful
Can't be so beautiful
Like my love is
Like my love is
Nothing do compare
Nothing any where with my love
A hundred things I see
A twilight sky that tree
But none so beautiful
Not one so beautiful

Like my love is
Like my love is
Once you see his face
None can take the place of my love
A stone rolled of my heart
When I laid my eyes on that
Near of me boy with that far away look
And right from the start I saw a new horizon
And a road to take me where I wanted to be took
Needed to be took
Needed to be took
Oh!
I never have seen snow
All the same I know
Nothing will ever be
Nothing can ever be
Beautiful as my love is
Like my love is to me
Nothing is as beautiful
To me

. . .

Über den Wipfeln des westlichen Haines
Winket uns freundlich der rötliche Schein
Unter den Zweigen des östlichen Haines
Säuselt der Kalmus im rötlichen Schein
Unter den Zweigen des östlichen Haines
Säuselt der Kalmus im rötlichen Schein

(Spoken:)
Ach! They just don't write tunes like that anymore:
"Auf Dem Wasser zu Singen". It is really one of my
Favorites and I'm sure it's one of yours! In fact it it
So much fun to sing... Why don't you join in with me
For the last chorus and.. er... you know, sing along with
Schubert?

(Singing:)
Bis ich auf höherem strahlendem Flugel
Selber entschwinde der wechselnden Zeit
Sel... wonderful, wonderful...
Selber entschwinde der wechselnden Zeit . . .

The world is made of music
Never ending symphonies of sound surround us
Miracles of melodies abound around us too
It's a musical world
It is a musical world, and the possibilities of making music are
Infinite. So with your kind indulgence and my kind permission we
Would like to present a premiere performance of a new work concerto
For voice and appliances...

The world is a concerto
Each day begins with music
In the air
The world is a concerto
Oh hear the music bubbling everywhere
The whole wide world is whistling
The heavens hum along
All blending in a never ending song
The world is a concerto
A song in which each singer has a part
A classical concerto
A rhapsody that's ringing through my heart
I feel the cleansing power
I tremble breathlessly
In keeping with the sweeping melody
So for me
Make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
It's a musical world
It's a musical world
It's a musical world

. . .

What do I really hear
What is in the ear of my mind
Which sounds are true and clear
And which will never be defined
The sweetest sounds I'll ever hear
Are still inside my head
The kindest words I'll ever know
Are waiting to be said
The most and entrancing side of all
Is yet for me to see
And the dearest love in all the world
Is waiting somewhere for me
Is waiting somewhere
Somewhere for me
