Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters Are BRITs Big WinnersFebruary 21, 2008
![]() The Sheffield band picked up Best British Album and Best British Group at the ceremony at Earls Court in London. The Foo Fighters and Take That were the nights other double winners, with the former winning Best International Group and Best International Album. Dressed as country gents, the band, who shunned last year’s awards, accepted Best Group, saying: "We are the Arctic Monkeys. We are the most fantastic.” It’s the third year in a row that the band have scooped prizes at the BRITs, which this year were hosted by the Osbourne family. Elsewhere, Kate Nash took home Best Female holding of the favourite Leona Lewis who walked away from the ceremony empty handed. Mark Ronson graciously accepted Best British Male and made reference in his speech to the fact that he had spent most of his life in America. US rapper Kanye West was crowned Best International Male and Kylie Minogue Best International Female. As the awards drew to a controversial close, Sir Paul McCartney performed a medley of hits, which included, ‘Live And Let Die’ and ‘Hey Jude’, to celebrate being given the Outstanding Contribution Award.
