The Subways Slam 'Despicable Celebrity Culture'March 17, 2008
The Subways' Billy Lunn has revealed that one song on the bands new album, 'All Or Nothing', is an attack on the world of celebrity.
Speaking to Gigwise, Lunn said that the track ‘California’ was written shortly after the band returned from their first trip to America. “That's really just a kick at the celebrity culture,” he said. “We find it completely despicable. “If you look back about a hundred years ago all the people who were famous were politicians, scientists, people who were contributing sometime positive. “Science was a popular culture, whereas now Jordan's more famous than the fact that these people are trying to create black holes." Lunn also revealed that the band's festival calendar this summer would include Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, Oxegen and T in the Park. "Charlotte and Josh will tell you that we sort of live for festivals, we can't wait for them,” he said. “Stepping off a bus, seeing the grass and just seeing the music. It's totally gonna kick off this year with the festivals." (by Jamie Milton) See also: The Subways Announce UK Tour (10.03.2011)
