Green Day American Idiot Musical Tickets Sales Plummet As Billie Joe Armstrong LeavesMarch 8, 2011
Ticket sales for the Broadway production American Idiot have plummeted following Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong’s departure from the show.
The frontman has just finished a second stint in the musical, which tells the story of the band’s career. The New York Times reports that weekly box-office grosses fell from $1.3 million to $395,275 in the week after his departure. In the past, such a sudden fall has often led to the closure of a production, but a spokesperson refused to comment. Armstrong has now been replaced by by AFI frontman Davey Havok. Meanwhile, Green Day have confirmed that their new live album and DVD 'Awesome As F*ck' will be released on March 21.
