Solomon Burke, Soul Legend, Dies Aged 70Solomon Burke, who wrote ‘Everybody Needs Somebody To Love’, has died at the age of 70, it's been confirmed.

The soul singer died one a plane in Amsterdam on Sunday (October 10) after arriving on a flight from Los Angeles.

His cause of death has yet to be announced, reports BBC News.

Born in Philadelphia, Burke began his career as a preacher and radio presenter before signing to Atlantic Records in the 1960s.

The self-proclaimed King of Rock and Roll’s biggest hit ‘Everybody Needs Somebody To Love’ was released in 1964, and was later covered by The Rolling Stones.

Other songs in Burke’s back catalogue included ‘Just Out Of Reach’ and ‘Cry To Me’. He was inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

He is survived by 21 children and 90 grandchildren.
