Eminem and Jay-Z made a surprise appearance on the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York last night (June 21).

The pair performed a brief set for around 100 fans who won tickets to the show by entering a competition on Twitter.

A YouTube video shows Jay-Z and Eminem unleashing their 2001 hit 'Renegade' with the Manhattan skyline in the background.

Highlights from the the performance will be shown on the Late Show With David Letterman on Friday (June 25).

The two rappers are due to appear on the US TV show to promote their forthcoming joint concerts in New York and Detroit this September.

Eminem went on to perform a secret gig at the Bowery Ballroom later on in the evening.
