Mick Jones Launches Clash Museum In London

July 23, 2009
Mick Jones Launches Clash Museum In LondonFormer Clash guitarist Mick Jones has opened a rock'n'roll museum in London.

The exhibition in Portobello Green, which is close to where the punk band formed, contains 10,000 items from Jones's personal collection.

As well as a host of Clash memorabilia, which includes pizza boxes from the band's tours, fans will also be able to view retro recording equipment.

Jones told the Guardian the collection was “very personal” but “I don't want the library to be only for Clash fans.

“I hope it can be a resource and spark people's imaginations, create an idea of continual creativity."

He added that it should be seen as a “direct artistic challenge” to more established and commercial music exhibitions.

Visitors will listen to a personal soundtrack selected by the guitarist while they walk around the exhibition.

There is also an opportunity to recreate traditional punk fanzines using computers.

The Rock'n'Roll Public Library runs until August 2 at 2 Acklam Road, Portobello Green. Admission is free.
