The king of mope has been in the limelight for almost exactly 26 years, starting when The Smiths released 'Hand In Glove' on May 13, 1983, and shows no sign of stopping.

One of the most influential figures in British music, his astute lyrics, inimitable voice and gloriously miserable demeanour have made him a music legend to his fans.

The fact that he's not without his detractors cements his cult hero status amongst his hardcore followers.
